#56 Beretta – The Big 100 Eat

Beretta’s Caponatina with burrata is #56 on 7x7 Magazine 100 Things you must try before you die list in San Francisco. Beretta occupies the Last Supper Club and is a newbie on the Chronicle’s 2009 Top 100 Restaurants in the Bay by Michael Bauer.

I’m a night owl and work weekends so Beretta is my kind of place since they open until 1am everyday. They are famous for skilled bartenders but I’m not drinker. I have the Asian flaming beet red look after half of glass of wine, sad really.

The Eggplant Copantina consist of roasted eggplants, diced celery, kalamata olives, cherries tomatoes and capers; drizzled with extra virgin olive oil and topped with burrata.

Burrata? I never had it and told by the server it was a mix of cream and fresh mozzarella cheese. The copantina is kind  of a take on caperese. Beretta specialize in affordable small plates so we ordered almost everything on the menu.



My favorite of the night was the Chicken Liver on Crostini. The chopped liver is still creamy with a bit of texture and piled mountain high on the charred toasted crostini.

I had this the eggplant too and it was incredible!!! For dessert with had the sweet cream gelato with the wine reduction and it was to die for. I think that should have made it on the list! The other ice creams are alright...I would take the brown butter pecan over the salted caramel at Bi-Rite and the ube over the buko at Mitchell's. Anyway, good luck with the rest of the list!
