I drive by Buckeye almost every day and even one of my favorite local books “Oh, The Glory of it All” by Sean Wilsey includes Buckeye in a beautiful descriptive ending to his book. I wanted to go to Buckeye one Valentine’s Day a few years ago but we kept missing the exit and settled at Outback Steakhouse.
Pulling in the driveway with free valet the first thing that pops in my face is a parked yellow Ferrari and next to it is another yellow Maserati; along with many luxury European cars.
Buckeye has the whole fancy ski lodge theme with a floor to ceiling brick fireplace adorned with a huge fish mantel. The second floor is commanded by the gigantic Moose head. The windows offer a view of the lake and the courtyard is fitted with a built-in BBQ.
There are many BBQ items on the menu: Babyback Ribs, Brisket, Pulled Pork. I orderedthe Beef Brisket with horseradish creme and mashed potatoes. The Oyster Bingo is a house favorite: a baked oyster with cheese on a bed of spinach in it’s own shell.
Buckeye is on The Chronicle’s 2009 Top 100 Restaurant in the Bay Area.
