Everyone knows the Buena Vista Cafe claims to be the first to bring Irish Coffee to America. Honestly, I never knew about the place until I started to pay attention. My Uncle John's Bathroom Reader had a full page dedicated to Buena Vista. I read about it in several food magazines and started to notice the advertisements on the cable cars. The full story on their website.
The Powell cable car stops right in front of the cafe and it is right around the corner from Gary Danko and Ghirardelli Square. Buena Vista even has a gift shop with knick knacks and they ship internationally, it is indeed a San Francisco (over 21 year old) treat!

The cafe serves food but I really came for the #68 $.7.25 Irish Coffee from The Big 100 Eats. The bar opens until 2am everyday and on a Monday night at 11pm, 80 percent of the seats were filled and there was a steady stream of people.

The atmosphere is darling with an older set of servers dressed in black pants, a tie and a white blazer. Classy. My Irish Coffee would be so nice on a cold day, so cold you rub your hands together to get back the sensation and breathing out steam.
We also ordered the $7.50 Mexican Chocolate (Tequila and Kaluha) and $7.50 Bailey's Hot Chocolate (the name speaks for itself.) Oh, I can sip on the hot chocolate all day long...

$7.50 for a drink? That seems expensive.
If I lived in San Francisco there is no doubt in my mind that I would make Buena Vista Cafe my home away from home!! :)
