Queen's Louisiana Po-Boy Cafe is very shiny, open for only a few months the walls are freshly painted in autumn colors, comfy booths, open kitchen and a large colorful blackboard menu. Almost everything at Queen's is deep fried - po-boys, seafood platters, fries, and beignets. There are the usual suspects for po-boys - crawfish, oysters, catfish, sausage, chicken and beef; all offered at 6 or 12 inches. Queen's flies in Louisiana French Pistolet baguette for their po-boys.
As described above with my superhero movie (in the making) I love my oyster po-boys, its everything I want in food - crispy, crunchy, juicy, sweet and drippy. The 12 inch Oyster Po-boy $13.50 is fried nicely without the greasiness but the bread ratio to oyster per bite was low. I did enjoy the bread, un-toasted, fluffy and a slight breakable outer crust.
One of the best hush puppies experience I had is at Catfish Alley in Las Vegas and was hoping to find one closer to home. The $2.50 hush puppies (3) are served with honey butter. The hush puppies are the size of an egg but too doughy without much flavor.
The large $5.25 Garlic Fries with Parmeasan and Remoulade, who doesn't like canned parmesan cheese sprinkle over hot fries? The remoulade is the star at Queen's, it is tangy, mildly spicy and gloopy enough to spread on everything.
The $12.25 Lunch Special includes any 6 inch po-boy and a cup of gumbo. I choose the crawfish po-boy which again I think needs more "meatiness" to the abundance of bread. The seafood gumbo is thick and chucky with crabmeat, chicken, shrimp and sausage.
The $5 creole potato salad was given in to us in two small containers. The salad was smooth like a devil's egg filling. I enjoyed it a lot but I thought it was expensive for the size.
Queen's offers $1.25 Zapp's Potato chips in a varitey of flavors. The same potato chips always stocked in Emeril's refrigerator as he exclaimed it is best when cold.
The people at Queen's are friendly and quick with the food order. They are still working on their inventory versus supply demand since they were out of beignets at 3 pm. The cashier said they are still learning and figuring out how much food they need based on their sales.
