Blue Bottle and Mondrian Cake at San Francisco MoMa

Blue Bottle & Mondrian cake, SF MOMA

Only at a San Francisco museum would there be pastries inspired by art. The blue bottle rooftop cafe in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (MoMa) has a selection of pastries inspired by art pieces. I stopped at the cafe while visiting the current exhibit, 'How Wine Became Modern'.

I took a break and ordered a caffe latte which came with a floating "leaf" milk foam. There were several interesting selection including a white hot chocolate inspired by 'Bubbles', Jeff Koon's golden Michael Jackson and Bubbles statue. I, however, had my sights on the Mondrian cake - a dense pound cake with chocolate ganache. The cake is visually simulating like the real art piece. I am picturing how to construct the cake in my mind, a rainy day project.

The 'How wine became modern' was a fun and interactive exhibit with hundreds of bottles on display, the process of fermentation, unique carafes, types of barrels and even a row of different types of wine to smell.

The San Francisco MoMa is also great for students where the tickets are half off, a fantastic deal at $9 where most place only discount a few dollars.

I love that they make desserts inspired by the surrounding artwork! I had that cake too, loved the frosting to cake ratio... the dining area is so lovely too.

They actually had a segment on that cake on "The Best Thing I've Ate." I want to try it one day....
