Koi Palace is well known for above-average dim sum and expensive varieties of seafood dishes during dinner. I’ve been a fan of Koi’s dim sum for many years. The quality is there with huge shrimps and unique dishes like durian puffs and abalone sui mai. The food tapered off badly when they quickly expanded with Just Koi and Koi Garden in the East bay and in the Thunder Valley casino. The food is starting to be on par again. The lines are extremely long on the weekends with an hour plus wait. They also have a station in the front with a chef making dragon’s beard candy on the weekends.

The $69 duck meal is probably the best deal on the menu. The meal includes the classic trio of duck.
First course: Peking duck-crispy skin with steamed buns
Second course: Duck bone soup with gai lan and soft tofu
Third course: Duck meat sautéed with noodles.

The meal also includes shanghai dumplings, garlic steamed crab, steamed snapper and a mini mango jello for dessert. The meal serves 2-4 people. The duck dishes are the best part of the meal the soup is the most tasty with the fragrant of the duck and soft tofu. The crab and fish was disappointing since it didn’t taste fresh but overall a solid and bargain meal for Koi Palace.

After going home with a full stomach I realized Koi does not use a lot of MSG which I’m sensitive to. I wasn’t thirsty or experienced dry tongue syndrome, a MAJOR plus.
There are also a couple of dinner meals including abalone, shark fin soup and the same above dishes (excluding duck) starting at $48/person. A restaurant on the Chronicle’s Top 100 restaurants in the Bay Area.

*Note – One of my favorite dishes is their Shanghai two-way Crab. The crab’s body meat is mixed with crunchy rice noodles and egg. The legs are done salt and pepper style.

One of the places I've heard of, but never been...Mmmmmm, duck!
BTW, how did you get your pics on flickr to show on your blog that it's not blocked for me at work. You're the first person I think that I could actually read at work w/pics....
