Boulangerie Bay Bread’s cannele is #44 on 7x7 Magazine’s 100 Things you must before you die in San Francisco list. It’s no secret Boulange is like the Starbucks of French passteries in the Bay Area. I've been coming here for years for their Parisian macaroons; however they changed their recipes for the fillings. They use fruit jams now versus fresh or cream fillings. Bouchon Bakery tops my list of best Parisian Macaroons.
The Canneles is what I love about food texture-wise. The outer crust is caramelized a bit sticky with a “pull” to the bite and the insides are eggy, custard-like, a tinge of a salt flavor and very fragrant with vanilla scent. One of the most affordable items at $1.75 really great with a cup of coffee or tea.
My other favorites includes croissant (almond or chocolate) and croque monsieur which is made with goat cheese; all very delicious.
