Ella’s Chicken Hash is #76 on 7x7 Magazine 100 Things you must try before you die in San Francisco list. I use to love this place for breakfast because of the biscuits, jam and corn beef hash. It was also a great place for breakfast dates since I work nights.
The chicken hash is potatoes and chicken breast shreds mashed together loosely so there is some small and big pieces of potatoes in the hash. The hash is fried on all size to a golden…black, topped with an insane amount of green scallions. I choose easy scramble eggs and a biscuit. The hash is good with a hint of “Thanksgiving” seasoning. The eggs were over done and the biscuit was a little under baked. The strawberry did not taste homemade more like Smuckers.

The French toast use to be one of my favorites: thick slices of homemade oatmeal bread soaked in brandy. The French toast is soggy without the pan fried crust and utterly flavorless.

The corn beef hash which I use to compare every restaurant to was also a disappointment; flavorless and cold. Every dish was cold as if was NOT sitting under a heat lamp. I don’t understand as it was not busy.

The service is as cold as the food the server was a robot, the busboy kept trying to take my plate WHILE I was eating, and the host was playing with his IPhone the whole time. No greetings or goodbyes. I will not be visiting Ella’s again with so many better breakfast places in San Francisco.
