July 4th Buttermilk Fried Chicken at Bouchon, Las Vegas

Bouchon, Las Vegas

July 4th was a perfect weekend for my friends and I to get away to Las Vegas. Many of my friends are new moms and our schedules are never in sync, it was a treat to get away with my girlfriends for the weekend. In addition to the wonderful, fun-filled, and Katy Perry's 'Last Friday Night' music video weekend; my twitter feed announced Bouchon Restaurant's special night for buttermilk fried chicken.

" Ad Hoc Fried Chicken at Bouchon, LV, July 4th!"

I made reservations immediately. I visited Ad Hoc in Yountville for fried chicken once and I have been craving the dish since. Driving to Yountville from San Francisco is over an hour and to do it on a Monday is rare, so I was excited to have Thomas Keller's buttermilk fried chicken in Las Vegas.

Unlike Ad Hoc, Bouchon restaurant served the fried chicken a la carte so we had the opportunity to order other dishes. We were short on time and finished dinner under an hour. Our server was accommodating, especially since it is Las Vegas and many other patrons are rushing to watch a show.

Since it was July 4th, the bartender made us a special drink named 'American Beauty' a sparkling grapefruit background with alcohol.

The famous pain epi was placed on the table after we ordered. We began the meal with the Salade de Cresson et d'Endives au Roquefort et Noix, watercress & endive salad with Roquefort, toasted walnuts & walnut vinaigrette.

To experience luxury without paying an arm and a leg I highly recommend the Terrine de Foie Gras de Canard, the restaurant has a small and large option. The large is 5oz and the small is half the size for half the price about $27. When the foie gras is served, a server comes along to scrape off the foie "gold" aka top layer and brings it back to the kitchen.

My friends and I were puzzled because we wanted to consume the foie "gold" too but the server left before we had a chance to say anything. The texture is rich and smooth, smoother than butter. In my opinion, the terrine de foie gras is just like the torchon foie gras served at the famed French Laundry. But at French Laundry there is a $30 supplement on top of the $270 tasting menu.

Now onto the buttermilk fried chicken, the $36 dish included grilled baby corn, macaroni salad, collard greens, a bacon biscuit with gravy and 4 pieces of chicken - a drumstick, thigh, two strips of "chicken tenders". The fried chicken was fantastic - juicy, tender, crispy crust with lots of crumbly fried bits and a loud crunch factor. Fried chicken is one of my favorite types of food and Keller's version is the best.

I hope Bouchon Las Vegas puts fried chicken on the menu every Monday. If I am in town on a Monday I would definitely make a reservation.
